An early-morning flight from Melbourne has delivered me to a strange land, where a middle-aged man stands next to me wearing a hoodie advertising something called the St George Illawarra Dragons. He’s transfixed by a wall.
“When I was at primary school,” he says, “we were allowed to bring in one record to play. Everyone brought in Pink Floyd The Wall. I brought in bird noises.”
